5th UK Baking Event 01-04 July 2011 – Bethesda, Gwynedd, North Wales
In 2007 I organised Bethesdabakin’ with the help of James Langton. This was held over the August Bank Holiday weekend at Bethesda Rugby Club and it was a fantastic success.
The following year Bradley Prezant organised a follow up in north eastern France which I still drool over when I think about it.
In 2009 Rick Coldman invited bakers to Mair’s Bakehouse in South Wales to make bread in the Rolls Royce of wood burning masonry ovens – a 5′ by 7′ Alan Scott.
And, August 2010, Joe Rowntree, Martin and his partner Caroline hosted a superb baking weekend up in the Yorkshire Dales.
All of these events have been great – totally individual but organised with the same principles: everyone who comes is a participant (no observers), everyone has something to offer (even if that’s only inexperience and a desire to learn), no stars (people help each other), shared catering and costs. Shared costs last year – with fantastic food + a wide variety of flours and ingredients came to £50.
This being the fifth event I want to bring it back to Bethesda and have booked the Rugby Club for the weekend of 01 July – the Chairman of the Club is very enthusiastic to have us back.
